Evaluation of population dynamics and mobility for the conservation of groupers: comparison between marine reserves for fisheries management purposes and biological reserves (ECOMERO)

Medio Ambiente

2009

A flagship species of coastal fish, groupers are of major ecological interest – as apex predators of key importance for marine ecosystem functioning – as well as being economically important for their fisheries and recreational value. Studies on grouper ecology, mobility and behavior are urgently needed to evaluate the use of marine protected areas (MPAs) as a conservation tool for exploited populations.
