DESCRIPTION
Though widely distributed until the mid nineteenth century, the pampas deer range is now highly fragmented with no connection between the few surviving population nuclei. In Argentina, it is considered the country?s most endangered species, with only four isolated populations remaining, composed of no more than 1,500 individuals, despite their emblematic status in the pampas region.
To date, neither the legal protection measures taken nor the studies carried out have resulted in solid progress. This project is a first step to implementing an efficient research and management programme with the ultimate goal of ensuring the species? recovery and long-term conservation.
